Payroll price checks for your clients
For accountants and bookkeepers: send a client a dated price check of what each payroll service that publishes prices would charge their team, with every price's source.
Some payroll providers may pay us a referral fee if you sign up through our links. It never affects the order of results. How we make money.
Our calculator works out what each of the US payroll services we track that publish prices would charge a team, from the list prices on the providers' own websites, with the date we checked each price and its source (on each service's page here, and printed on the handout). When a client asks what payroll would cost them, that's a price check you can send in a few minutes.
Many small businesses leave payroll to their accountant or bookkeeper: in a survey of 1,074 small businesses run by OnPay in the fourth quarter of 2023, 23% outsource payroll to an accountant or bookkeeper (the survey's figure; OnPay is one of the payroll services we compare, and its page doesn't detail how the survey was done; source: onpay.com, read October 22, 2026).
Send a link to the comparison
- Open the calculator and enter your client's team: W-2 employees, 1099 contractors, the number of states they work in, and the features they can't do without.
- Click Copy link to this comparison above the results, and paste the link into your email.
The link holds your inputs and nothing else. Whoever opens it sees the same team, priced with our prices on the day they open it, which may have changed since you sent it. For a record of today's prices, print the handout. An example: 8 employees and 2 contractors in 2 states, with payroll taxes filed for you.
Print a handout
Click Print this comparison above the results, or print the calculator page from your browser. You get a handout, usually a single page, with the team you entered, every service that fits ranked by monthly price, the date each price was checked and its source, the notes and unpublished fees that go with them, the services we don't price, and the link back to the comparison. To attach it to an email, save it as a PDF from your browser's print window.
What the prices are, and what they aren't
- Standard monthly list prices from each provider's own website. They don't include any discount or other pricing arranged through an accountant or a partner program: we don't track those.
- Providers that don't publish list prices are listed but never priced.
- Not included: the payroll taxes themselves, health-insurance and workers' comp premiums, and fees a provider doesn't publish.
- We compare published prices and features only. We haven't run payroll on these services, and nothing here is tax, legal or accounting advice.
Where the prices come from and how often we check them: how we check prices.
Your client's numbers
The calculator works out the prices in your browser, and we don't record the numbers you enter. When you copy a link or print a comparison, we count only that you did, never the link or the numbers in it. The details: privacy policy.
